English Title: Everybody's Business
Genre: Drama, Romance
Year: 2013
Summary: When Singapore is hit with a widespread bout of food poisoning – with at least fifty victims – everyone is sent into a tizzy. How on earth could something like this happen in Singapore? And who’s responsible? John Lu (Gurmit Singh), a hygiene inspector from the Ministry of National Environment is sent to investigate the “national crisis.” He traces the source of the contaminated food to an old-school coffee-shop run by the bickering Mr and Mrs Wong Fei (Wang Lei, Liu Ling Ling) and uncovers an even larger national issue – dirty public toilets. John and his colleague, Winston (Mark Lee) put in a report to the head of their department, who realizes that in order to overcome this problem, a new ministry must be formed.
Thus, the Ministry of Toilets is formed, handling any business to do with Singaporeans’ business – big business, small business, all business.
John’s family – his wife Peggie (Judee Tan) and son Meng (Aloysius Pang) are pleased with this new development as it means a promotion for John, who has slogged his way up the ladder. But there are speedbumps on the road to national enlightenment: the new initiatives by the Ministry of Toilets are not warmly received by the general public. However, it is through the collective experience of trying to achieve a common goal that everyone realizes a simple truth – that nobody’s job is really easy; that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and that sometimes people shouldn’t stop at just identifying a problem but also become part of a solution.
